Beautiful variegated foliage crowded at the branch tips, horny triangular spine-shield at the base of petioles bearing short spines and minute stipules almost enclosing the flowering eye above. As it matures, small brownish yellow cup-like flowers give way to rounded fruit of varying sizes anywhere between a cherry to a walnut. Slow grower, can reach an average of 20' tall and even larger given enough space with a gorgeous rounded canopy. Likes regular watering during active growth season, decrease water in winter but do not allow soil to completely dry out.
